Larry's Bike Trip

THINK SNOW !!!

How do fellow penguins,

This years Penguin Bike Outing had to be rescheduled to Sunday 5-18-03 because of weather. As we headed through New Hope across the river into Lambertville N.J.the temperature was in the 50's. Not a problem for Penguins, the men wearing shorts of course. After a short tour of some out of the way restaurants we made are way onto the Delaware canal. We all took a turn in leading the penguins up river to Bulls Island. Along the way we stopped several times for one member to relieve themselves and to admire the beautiful scenery and talk and laugh . Our first major landmark was Stockton, N.J.,there are a few really good restaurants and deli within walking distance.Phillips Liquor store is a stone through away with a great selection of wine, which I personally showed Marty on the drive-bye. Moving along we passed and old Grist Mill that serves as a craft & art exhibit and Ed found another  bathroom. Also at this site is were a stream and the canal meet and the excess water flows over a spillway into the Delaware river .As we peddled into Bulls Island we made a quick stop for Ed and then crossed the Delaware River over the Lumberville walking bridge into Lumberville ,Pa. where it was time for lunch. We decided to stay inside the Lumberville general store to eat our lunch. Our host and sandwich maker "Gerald" made us home made sandwiches which we all split because there to big. Some could not resist the home made muffins and cookies or seconds. After lunch it was down river, but not before a quick trip through the historic Lumberville yard, the caboose and gum tree. On the way back it was more of the same, laughter and some quiet time to reflect on the beauty of nature. As we passed the mule's and barge on our way into New Hope we all decided to keep the party going and after a group picture we headed for the White House to have a few drinks and some barbecue.Roberta & I would like to thank the members who attended this year and the members who called who could not attend. It was a great success with a 20% increase this year!
